Ubuntu 22.04 & Rosengarden & Garritan

Post by Acamat »

Hi folks,

After some time researching on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that this combination might work. I am quite tech-savvy, but I honestly admit that my knowledge of audio technology is very limited. Do any of you know a step-by-step guide on how I can implement this? Because I haven't found anything useful so far. Any advice is very welcome.

As far as I know Linux Rosegarden supports only DSSI and LADSPA plugins.

I couldn't find any exhaustive technical info but a line "The Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand sound library is AAX, RTAS, VST, and AU compatible, and is proudly powered by the ARIA Player."

And system requirements on https://www.garritan.com/products/perso ... uirements/ don't mention Linux.

So … forget it with Linux.

Dear bluebell,

So … forget it with Linux.

I'm not going to throw in the towel that quickly :D.

Even if it may be very bold and an adventurous auxiliary construction, but a few years ago I got the Aria player to work under Ubuntu 16.04 using wine without any problems. Since Rosengarden supports Vst via dssi-vst

DSSI synth and audio effects plugin support, including Windows VST effects and instrument support via dssi-vst
Rosegarden-Features

and the Aria player in turn supports Vst,

If you choose to include the VST plug-in during the ARIA Player installation, you are prompted to specify the location where you want to place it.
Aria-Player

is there perhaps a glimmer of hope after all, I only needed wine for the installation, right?

I don't use Wine and Windows-Plugins and didn't know about dssi-vst so I cannot help there.

What definitely works is Rosegarden with fluidsynth-dssi and sf2 soundfonts.

Thank you, that's no problem at all. You have already helped me. I'll give it a try soon and can report on the results here afterwards. Someone may be interested.
