Native Access 2 now works with WINE

Post by ShopGoose »

Native Instruments has begun deprecating the original Native Access, no longer providing the latest versions of Kontakt through the application. For a while, Native Access 2 would not run on WINE, but this has changed.

Thanks to casey for posting detailed instructions on how to get NA2 running. I have received confirmation from others that this method works, though I have not tried it myself yet.

On my system, running Ubuntu with wine-staging-9.0-rc2, I am able to get Native Access running following this instructions but if I start the NTKDaemon manually, it terminates after running around 10 seconds. If I run the installer of the NTK daemon, it is started and remains running. I don't know why I need to re-install it every time I want to open Native Access but something seems to be different if the NTK daemon is started by the installer.

Thanks for mentioning that. NI, among several others, have their own ways regarding the internet, and expecting mac or win
behavior likely isn't generic enough to always work in linux. So tips are important 8)
Happy 2024, duck and run , it's incoming

Tried it, does not work for me. I suspect part of the problem might be having XFCE as desktop env, so maybe all does not match. On '8. Run Native Access using the desktop entry' nothing happens. Sure, for cli-user I was bit 'what do you mean with run?', but took up thunar, graphical file manager, and run it with that. For me 'run' means start from command line :-)

Tried it now with empty wineprefix, not having previous Native Access there, but does not work still, on step 8 nothing happens.

This starts to smell like NI plugins need to be run in Windows machine with Audiogridder.

I’ve been looking into that possibility as well.

Here are some needed steps for installing/using the old Native Access 1.14 that NI keep for win7 users etc
Set up a working wine staging installation.
Make contiguous empty disk space 3 times larger than your planned total Native Instruments installation size.

go to https://www.native-instruments.com/en/s ... downloads/

Download and install the NTK Daemon
NI Uninstall RegTool_64bit_.zip
Native_Access_Installer_211108.zip

edit: some download links:
https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... ng-Systems

Registry cleaner is at this page:

https://community.native-instruments.co ... ninstaller

ntk daemon link is at this page:

https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... pendencies

Run any Native Access uninstall tool you see in your wine, likely it will 'fail'.
Use Native Instruments NI Uninstall RegTool to remove all Native Access registry keys. It's an easy tool!
Physically delete all Native Access folders and files, they may be scattered in many .wine folders!

reboot

Launch the ntkdaemon found in.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Native Instruments/NTKDaemon
Launch Native Access

Installing their plugins/instruments is another topic, involving finding, extracting, and mounting their
iso/exe files, and it's mentioned in other related topics here and in duckduck googleville. Gotta run fo the moment.
Hope this helps

Am I stupid/blind, but I can't see downloads for such, only Native Access 2?

No, they just stash things in odd corners sometimes  I should have posted the link earlier, but had an errand to do.

An install example, purchase and download Reaktor Prism

Create a folder in /mnt called ni

put the downloaded Reaktor_Prism.iso in /mnt/ni

issue this command:

sudo mount -t udf Reaktor_Prism.iso -o unhide /mnt/ni

you will now have an installer there: /mnt/ni/Reaktor Prism 1.6.0 Setup PC.exe

Issue this command, noting that quotes are needed when spaces are in a title or path:

wine "Reaktor Prism 1.6.0 Setup PC.exe"

When the installer is done, start or re-start Native Access,
and it should find and authorize Reaktor Prism. Have any serial numbers ready to paste for authorizations
if needed.

Some of their products don't use the .iso format, but many do.
Cheers
