Good, I remember old versions using samples.

So, no copyright infringment, probably just EULA violation then, if today's EULA still has:

"Sound produced by Pianoteq can only be distributed within a musical context, and not in forms that allow the sounds to be used as sample based instruments or sample libraries."

It's a funny clause. Does a computer program produce sound? If I hit a drum, am I producing the sound or is the drum?

If I record a melody with Pianoteq then a third party samples it for an instrument, I've both complied with and broken that EULA.

My plan to make a car alarm sound with Pianoteq is off the table?

Pianoteq is not a sample based instrument, so there is no infringement of copyright.

I should have said it is against their EULA.

Very good questions to send to Modartt support/legal dept.

Or maybe some of your fellow Pianoteq users can answer, I don't use it.

in mix, nobody can hear your screen

Yeah, I am sure they would appreciate that  I was speaking hypothetically, I don't use it either.

The whole thing was hilarious.
What I find even more funny is the ensuing theory that this was all a conspiracy by some Pianoteq zealot to expose the anti-Pianoteq faction.
Evocative of the Systemd controversy so dear to us Linux users.
