Open season, better hire armed security after the show, or band members take turns snoozing in the truck with a shotgun.

It's an eternal problem. Been known to happen in Australia too.
We would always take guitars and other small expensive items into the hotel room overnight, and choose hotels with security cameras and underground car parks where possible.

I imagine a lot of bands make wiser decisions once they've been robbed. Although they probably were forwarned
on numerous times, and just assumed nobody was paying attention to their gear. Maybe some of the heists
were based on probability of value, rather than knowing what merchandise was locked away. Probably some gangs google
the best looking stuff while the band is on stage to see if a heist is worth the risk.
Cheers

In principle, you should never neglect the issue of security. There are a few iron rules that you should always follow when touring:

  1. Never leave portable instruments on stage, cloakrooms or backstage.

  2. Never park transport vehicles unattended when they are not yet unloaded.

  3. At least one person should remain with the trucks when unloading the vehicles.

  4. Access to the venue should be strictly controlled.

  5. The security situation needs to be organized in advance.

Anyone who follows these points shouldn't experience any unpleasant surprises in practice.

Another car thief smash and grab, touring duo left their world-class gear in the SUV in a parking garage to have breakfast and go sight-seeing.
Last stop of the tour...evidently the promoter didn't promote the common sense mentioned in the previous post. :(

Good news, some fools brought the violin and bows to a local violin shop, wanted $40 or so...thought the dust had settled.
So it's been returned, to it's now quite jubilant and more streetwise owner! 8)
