Hyrdogen appears out of sync with Ardour (maybe a Jack issue?)

Post by dchurch24 »

Hi all,

I thought I was going mad, as I was moving my drums about and having them coming in at the wrong place, so I'd go over to Hydrogen and adjust them in the song, then press play - all would be fine.

I'd then move the transport in Hydrogen and they'd be in the wrong place again.

I also noticed that when I clicked the pay button, Hydrogen would miss the first beat - every time. I'd have 4 kick drums say, then run it in pattern mode, and it would miss the first beat..it would be fine the second time around, but every time the play button was clicked it would miss the first one.

I've tried to uninstall it, but I get the following:

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
avldrums.lv2 : Depends: avldrums.lv2-data (= 5:0.4.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

If I then run the -fix-broken command, I get:

Code: Select all

(Reading database ... 485649 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../avldrums.lv2-data_5%3a0.4.1_all.deb ...
Unpacking avldrums.lv2-data (5:0.4.1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/avldrums.lv2-data_5%3a0.4.1_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/lv2/avldrums.lv2/Black_Pearl_4_LV2.sf2', which is also in package avldrums.lv2-soundfont 0.4.2~repack1-1
dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/avldrums.lv2-data_5%3a0.4.1_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

This is 2 day old install of Ubuntu Studio 22.04.2 LTS Jammy Jellyfish.

Can anyone shed any light on what's actually going on? It's driving me insane :p

dpkg --configure -a may help. sudo apt-get clean -y ; sudo apt update -y ; sudo apt upgrade -y ; sudo apt autoremove -y

May help, then you can figure out what missing library you don't have that is not allowing the package to be installed. ?

Thank you very much. That did indeed show me, and I managed to sort that, then uninstall Hydrogen and reinstalled.

...but sadly, the sync issue remains. It's really weird.

A few years ago, i had a sync problem with Hydrogen, too. There were parts in a song without drums, so these times weren't filled with patterns. Filling them with empty patterns solved the problem.

Fiddling with sequencers does not evolve into music necessarily and Mac users have smelly feet and guzzle little children.

Hi. Thank you, I'll give that a try. I've read that the time signatures need to be the same as well...I'm unsure if they were or not, but will check that when I get home as well.
Cheers :)

I had a sync problem one time with Ardour and Hydrogen. The problem was that I tapped out the beat and went with an odd tempo with 2 decimal places.
