Ableton Live registration under Wine?
I might be able to temptate member of younger generation to try some music creation (some experience before). However, tutorial videos which would help on my mission are made with Ableton Live, so using it would help making things easier.
Getting Ableton Live 10 Trial to run under wine seems not to be problem, but registration does not work. Ableton tries to open browser, but nothing happens. Any tips how to get that fixed?

Try installing the winbind and libntlm0 and gnutls packages and see what happens.tavasti wrote:Hi!

Not sure which gnutls package I should be installing, tried this:ubuntuuser wrote: Try installing the winbind and libntlm0 and gnutls packages and see what happens.
apt-get install winbind libgnutls-openssl27 libntlm0
No change.

Re: Ableton Live registration under Wine?
It seems that Ableton can be registered offline https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... ve-Offline
and on the Wine apps Ableton page
Authorization File
Pass the path to the auz file as first parameter to Live.exe with an absolute Windows path. You only need to do this once.
$ wine Live.exe "C:\foo.auz"
and there is also this

Offline registration is not available for trial version.ubuntuuser wrote:I'm not sure what you are trying to do and I've only used Ableton once on windows a long time ago, so I'm not exactly sure about Ableton and Wine and what I say might not work, maybe someone with more Ableton/Wine experience will post something.

Tried installing Windows Firefox, but it crashes on startup.

Re: Ableton Live registration under Wine?
https://www.ableton.com/answers/is-it-p ... ed-versionWhen you purchase a license for Live, you need to download the installer from your account page, authorizing the trial version is not possible anymore since Live 9.
While this seems like a step backwards, it is actually more consistent now, since every version of Live comes with its dedicated installer.
Back with Live 8, it was only the authorization, that defined the version of Live you are using, but this lead to a lot of confusion about the content that got installed, so we tried to make things more consistent with Live 9.

Re: Ableton Live registration under Wine?
Current trial version works as full for 30 days, but it needs registration from network.sysrqer wrote:Isn't there a non-trail version to install if you have a license? I thought you just needed to input your activation code.
Tried also Midori browser, crashes, IE 11 for win7 runs installer, then tries to open something on browser for uploading more, and fails because of midori is default...
Edit: Asked help on winehq forum, lets see how long moderation takes even for my question to appear (new user)

Ok, I'll give it a try, but those talks are about older versions, now it is Live 10 Trialsysrqer wrote:Why are you trying to do this? Just download the version from your account. That quote is from ableton support themselves.
Edit: And result, still needs web auth

For Trial, I don't think so.sysrqer wrote:You could contact ableton and just say that you have no way of getting online with the computer you use (and leave out any mention of linux), there must be a way to do it offline.

2) Ableton support
And Ableton answers, amazingly got proper answer instead of normal "linux mentioned, we don't support linux"tavasti wrote: Hi!
I would like to try Ableton Live on linux, and if it looks working ok, configure it to use for my son. It looks like it works, but trial online authorization does not. I could get license to be seen on https://www.ableton.com/en/account/ but Live does not see it.
Another option for trying would be Live 9 Lite which I have, but it has only 2 registrations, and I would not want to use one registration to my own test setup when actual use will be my son's laptop & desktop.
Suggestions how to get either one of these:
- Trial registered offline
- One more unlock for my Ableton Live 9 Lite (xxxx-xxx-xx-x-x-x-xxx)
Ableton support wrote: Hi there,
Thanks for your email.
I have added a new unlock to your Live 9 Lite license so that you can authorize on your third computer. Th trial version needs an internet connection in order to work.
I hope this helps!
Cheers

I tried Ableton 10 Trial out on Ubuntu Studio 17.10 and Wine-Staging 3.8 and it opens the Firefox browser (default browser) and goes to the registration page ok as far as I can tell.tavasti wrote:1) On wine forum, not too much action

Maybe if you tried updating Wine to Wine-Staging, or it could be some library or other thing to do with your system.

Re: Ableton Live registration under Wine?
It goes to registration page ok, but firefox apparently can't communicate with Ableton Live, and nothing happens. If forcing browser to be wine ie (not real ie), I got license, but that does not end up to software.ubuntuuser wrote: I tried Ableton 10 Trial out on Ubuntu Studio 17.10 and Wine-Staging 3.8 and it opens the Firefox browser (default browser) and goes to the registration page ok as far as I can tell.
