Wiki merge

Post by raboof »

Our wiki ( http://wiki.linuxmusicians.com ) is a great resource. The LinuxAudio.org wiki ( http://wiki.linuxaudio.org ) is also very good.

To reduce the fragmentation of information (and to some degree the maintenance burden), we're planning on joining forces, and merging our content into the LAU wiki.

The tentative plan is to move our pages as-is to wiki.linuxaudio.org next saturday, starting 14:00 CEST.

Of course after moving the pages the real work starts: merging together the information from both wiki's to make them into one consistent whole. This will be a process of gradual improvement. Luckily several people have expressed interest in helping.

If you want to help out, be sure to join in on IRC (#lad or #opensourcemusicians - if there's many of use we'll probably use a separate channel for this) so we can synchronize efforts.

Thumbs up!
That reminds me that I said I wanted to recreate the sampled instrument section of the LA wiki...

I'd love to help out but I'm probably not on-line tomorrow, only after 20:00 CET.

We've been making nice progress today.

All lm.com pages have been migrated to lau.org, and HTTP 301 redirects have been added so older links don't break (too severely).

We've already merged together a number of pages. http://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/migrationprogress lists pages that are still 'orphans'. For those pages we'll have to evaluate whether the information should be added to existing lau.org pages, or that links to those pages should be added to the wiki frontpage.

Feel free to improve!

What about the useraccounts of the LM wiki? Are those merged too? Should be possible as both wikis use Dokuwiki.

Ah, no, but registeration is open again.

(I've considered looking into merging the accounts, but figured some of us probably already have accounts on both wiki's, making things a bit messy)

I've noticed an issue with the migration. It has used section names for some pages. See

http://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/hardware_matrix

How do we change page names? Is this something that can be scripted?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean - do you mean that dokuwiki seems to use the name of the first title as the page name?

A lot of pages I created have section headers (e.g. General) and the first section header is showing as the page name now. So we have lots of pages called 'General'. I just tried changing the name of the first section on a page and it changed how the page name was displayed

I can do this manually if necessary.
