new gxtuner for jack

Post by brummer »

Hi

for those who didn't follow LAU or LAA, I would like to announce the release of gxtuner.

gxtuner is a simple, lightweight, guitar/bass tuner for jack, based on the guitarix tuner module.
It comes with a analogue like interface witch support full arbitrary scaling, indicate the freq (Hz), tone (char),and octave (num), as well shows the error to the Note in the scale.
Here are some screenshots :

brummer,

Looks great! I'll have a look this weekend and hopefully package it, does it have /DEBIAN/rules like guitarix? I haven't had time to grab the source yet...

Keep up the great work!

@GMaq

Thanks, hope you like also how it works when you try it :D
But sorry, this time there isn't a debian folder included, because Debian Multimedia Maintainer Jaromír Mikeš let me know that he will do that and push it to sid, before I have made the first release.
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/main/gxtuner
anyhow, I have send you PM with some details. :)

@Pablo

You are welcome Pablo, thanks for let me know you like it.

Looks like Jaromír beat you to it: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg ... xtuner.git

It's actually already in sid (unstable): http://packages.debian.org/sid/gxtuner

a simple threshold knob could make it easier to use, but I guess the goal is to keep it the simpliest.

@brummer, Got the PM. Thank you very much!

@raboof,

To clarify that is truly great news for Debian Wheezy and Sid users, however unless I backport or custom package it myself it doesn't benefit AV Linux/Squeeze users at all. Debian's system is amazing but without official Squeeze backports of multimedia stuff I basically unfortunately have to package upstream for myself. I don't want to use Debian development as a base and they (pkg-multimedia) are busy enough with Wheezy and Sid to not have time for backports. I'm certainly not critical of Debian for this it simply 'is what it is'.

On paper it would make sense for me to volunteer to do backports for Debian however with a family, job and an existing very busy 'Distro or Fork' it is simply not possible for me at this time...It is not my intention to be a 'lone wolf' but I have to make the most of the limited time I have and take advantage of the freedoms that it affords me.

Now back to brummer's awesome tuner!!

right, I really like to keep it as simple a possible, so it use a fixed threshold level, didn't it work well for you when use with guitar input ? Is the threshold to low for your input ?

oh, there is a fixed one? I haven't even tried it. lol. just loaded it and couldn't find it. but with a fixed threshold one can easy lower the gain of the preamp if there is to much noise. so disconsider my comment.

Thanks brummer!

It is working fine and the new options are really useful.

May I suggest a new feature? I wish I could define the default size from the command line.

Cheers! Pablo

Yes, it's a good idea, that comes on the favourite to-do-list for the tuner. :D

Hi, Brummer, this is a great software tool!
I agree with Pablo, a command line size option would be really nice.
And thank you for the -i option!

best wishes, G.

Hello GarryO :D

Well, so it is done. I have updated gxtuner to version 1.6 and added some more command line options

gxtuner 1.6 changes:
* add command-line option reference pitch control
* add command-line option threshold control
* add command-line option to auto connect at start up
* add command-line option window size
* add command-line option window position
* add all options to be restored by jack session manager

all options be optional, that means default values will be used if a option is not set, or out of range.
