What's the closest rig I could have on Linux that would allow me to play live as with Reason or Ableton Live?
Of course, Jack is great at linking programs together. But say I am going to play live with 5 synths together, then I will have to load 5 programs, and their presets, then make sure all the links the Jack patch bay are okay, etc.
Then at the next piece, I'd have to re-load new programs and their patches, etc.
That's not quite something you can afford to do when you are on stage.
So what could I do?
Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Hey!
Maybe you would find my setup of use. Detailed article here:

As for reloading things while on stage, you generally use scripting. It sounds complicated, but in reality it is not that difficult. I plan to write an article on scripting soon. If you need an example, just mail me (contacts on site).

perhaps you can write a little startscript for each program, so you can get your 5 synths with one click on and another skript to killall programs.

It wouldn't be hard to make such a live setup (with some support of others maybe). You can use BASH scripting, use the patchbay in qjackctl, or use a session manager like http://ladish.org/
Learn Supercollider. Also Renoise could be pretty capable of doing stuff comparable with Ableton. I would prefer some opensource setup myself though.
