Disco dancing in Holland

Post by Gps »

Something I like to share, but it has nothing to do with Linux.
I must have been about 15 year old when I bought this 45 rpm single, 1979

I think these organs at least inspired the time line in our daws.

For those who do not know.
There organs are fed with a book with slots in it.

At least its cheerful, and I do wonder how this is made / recorded.
I think they made a pianoroll book ?, for this track, and then added guitars and more drums.

For those that never have seen these books:
Here is a vid, although this organ is much smaller, does not have percussion, but it shows the book.
The bigger ones, had drums and a wooden block

1979 sampled organ?
Because I know how these big organs sound I doubt they sampled it.

Years before the Atari ST and midi. (the round din plug one)
ST 1986 ?
We can rule that out.

The self playing pianos were probably first? Also using paper with slots in it.

They claim a real organ was used, this one:

I cant find an English version of this dutch wiki, but there are pictures.
