What videochat if need to route jack audio?

Post by tavasti »

I have jack+pulseaudio configured working together. I need to have video call with my friend who is using M$-Windows, and I would need to show some music stuff. So I would need to have ability to route audio from jack to that video call. Which service-client-voodoo magic to select?

Usually if you don't need advanced routing you can just send your mic and DAW audio to Pulseaudio JACK Source, and then use Pulseaudio JACK Source as your "virtual mic" in the videochat.

If you need something more complex you can do it following 2 different approaches:

  1. Use PA as mixing device, you'll need to create some PA sinks and sources, to send multiple audio sources to a single sink/source.
  2. Using JACK as mixing device, you need a JACK mixer and route all your audio there. You need at least 2 stereo outs, one for Master (for your local speakers/headphones) and one for the "virtual mic" where you send the audio you need to stream. The "virtual mic" then should go to Pulseaudio JACK Source.

in mix, nobody can hear your screen
