vmpk + qsynth : layered instruments

Post by flm »

Hi. I'm new to music in Linux and just joined this forum.

I'm using vmpk and qsynth with a Keystation61 mk3.

Is there a way with this configuration to play several instruments simultaneously in order to mix the sounds? For instance, synthbrass and French horn together.

Is there also a way to split the keyboard and assign a different instrument to each part?

Thanks

You can try Konfyt (https://www.noedig.co.za/konfyt/) which is specifically made to do this.
It includes Fluidsynth to play Soundfonts like QSynth, but also has support for SFZ instruments.
It only works with JACK though, so you'll have to set that up if you haven't already.

For automatic accompaniment, there is BackupBand (https://sourceforge.net/projects/backupband/).

You can also use a plugin host like Carla to build your own multi-layer and split keyboard setup.
