No Budget Plugins: Reeds and more

Post by j_e_f_f_g »

Here's the next installment of the NoBudget plugin suite.

First we have the solo sax family. (I extended the range of the alto sax to cover the soprano sax. So the alto can function as a soprano too. I likewise extended the tenor sax range to cover baritone sax). The saxes have growl patches too. We also have a full sax ensemble (patch) like you would find in a large jazz band. You could use this to play your sax parts instead of building up a sax section with a lot of individual sax plugins.

Next we have lush, stereo synth brass and string patches. They really fill in the background of an arrangement that has only a few other instruments.

We have a new mellotron patch I made, using tapes from both the Mark ! and Mark II mellotrons to create a stereo mellotron. It's a big sound. Good for Genesis circa the late 70's.

FInally we have a choir patch. I've been collecting voice (singer) samples for a couple years now with the intent of mixing them all into a choir. I finally got enough "Aah" samples to create a choir singing that vowel. (I'm still waiting to flesh out the other vowels, Eee, Ooh, Ooo, etc. When all the vowels get done, you can create a choir that sort of sounds like it is singing actual english words. I wish we had enough good singers here willing to record themselves singing the english vowels up and down their range, and then recording some consonants, Then I can make a choir plugin that lets you type in actual words for the choir to sing. We need one of those for Linux).

To get the new patches, go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/nbo-plugins/files/

Download reeds_plugins.7z. Also download reeds44khz.7z for 44.1 KHz wave set, and/or reeds48khz.7z for the 48 KHz set.

Unzip these 3 to your home dir, and they should create a NoBudgetReeds folder containing many files.

Also download nbcommon.7z and unzip it to your home dir to create a NoBudgetCommon folder full of files.

Finally, download update.7z and unzip it to create a NoBudgetUpdate folder.

Open a terminal window in the NoBudgetReeds folder and type these 2 commands:

Code: Select all

chmod 755 ./install_reeds.sh
sudo ./install_reeds.sh

Follow the prompts. When that install finishes, open your terminal in the NoBudgetUpdate folder and type the following:

Code: Select all

chmod 755 ./update.sh
sudo ./update.sh

This applies a few fixes to any NoBudget plugins you previously installed.
