AVL Drumkits new Blonde Bop Kits Released!!

Post by GMaq »

Six years after the successful releases of the Red Zeppelin and Black Pearl AVL Drumkit libraries and LV2 Plugins I have once again partnered with x42 Plugins resident genius Robin Gareus to bring out brand new ‘Blonde Bop’ Drumkits in various library formats including Robin’s excellent LV2 Plugin. This new kit is a natural maple 4pc. TAMA Club Jam Bop Kit. Although small in stature this little kit kicks ass and has been sampled in two versions; a regular stick version and a super-phat version played with Promark Hot Rods! For all the details please set aside some time to watch the release Video, download links at the bottom of the post!

Very nice, thanks!

In the screenshot you see Blonde Bop loaded as vst plugin in Renoise. So there is no need to update the avl-drums vst folder?

Hi!

Pardon me for being a bit puzzled, I know little about Renoise..

There is no VST version of the Plugin, only LV2 and the other simple library formats. Also to my knowledge there are not Distribution Packaged versions of the latest Drumkits (except for my own AV Linux/MXDE ones). So my first question is... where did the VST come from...?

I'll try to find out where I got it from. The avl-drums vst folder contains the files avldrums.lv2.bundle, which is just a text file with the location of the avl-drums lv2 plugin folder, and avldrums.lv2.so, of size 335.2 kB, probably a lv2 to vst wrapper? Didn't x42 develop such wrappers? Maybe it comes from them?

Anyway, this wrapper for Black Pearl and Red Zeppelin also seems to work for the Blonde Bops.

EDIT, Found the source of the vst: kx.studio

https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-debian/ ... _amd64.deb

Hi again,

Ahhh now I recall... Yes there is some sort of LV2 to VST wrapper that Robin and falkTX came up with. I've never used it personally and I don't use the KX Packages so I had forgotten about it..

Anyway, it's nice to hear that the existing wrapper supports the added kits! Thanks for the info!

LV2 Plugin Binaries for all Platforms: https://x42-plugins.com/x42/x42-avldrums

The center hit of the floor tom of the hotrod kit has a noticeable delay w.r.t. the same hit in the regular kit (in the lv2 version), and also w.r.t. other hits of the same kit.

Good catch! There is an offset showing up in the samples that the trim script seems ineffectual on, will get it fixed ASAP. If you find any other anomalies please share, appreciated!

*EDIT Updated fixed builds in first post, thanks again for the report!

I don't know if it's an anomaly or that it simply belongs, but on higher velocities the hotrod ride tip has a very noticeable low frequency rumble to it, absent in the regular kit.

Yes, that is a heavy ride with a strong fundamental overtone, it was recorded exactly the same way for both kits with the same mics etc. but my feeling is with the softer more spread out transient from the Hot Rod sticks there is less 'signal to noise' ratio so the hit is softer so it has less contrast against the strong underlying frequency.. I personally aim to leave things like that intact because those are things real drums in real rooms do.
