help with the installation :(

Post by Marlon »

Hello!
I am a former Windows / Mac User and created a lot of music in the past.
I am also a Jazz / Metal Drummer an now want to give Ubuntu Linux, Ardour and DrumGizmo a try.
Unfortunately, I am not able to install the program.
I already installed Ardour with success. But the DrumGizmo program is somehow tricky to get it running.

I get following error message (sorry, unfortunately pieces of it are in german) after the "make install":

checking dynamic linker characteristics... (cached) GNU/Linux ld.so
checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate
checking for special C compiler options needed for large files... no
checking for _FILE_OFFSET_BITS value needed for large files... no
checking whether make supports nested variables... (cached) yes
checking whether CXX supports -std=c++11... yes
checking whether 'override' and 'final' keywords are supported... yes
checking whether CXX supports -ffloat-store... yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.23... yes
checking whether linker supports '-Wl,-no-undefined'... no
checking whether linker supports '-Wl,-undefined,error'... yes
*** Building with nls support!
checking for xgettext... no
configure: error: Missing xgettext tool.
make: *** Es wurden keine Ziele angegeben und keine „make“-Steuerdatei gefunden. Schluss.
make: *** Keine Regel, um „install“ zu erstellen. Schluss.

Do you know what to do now?
Best regards,
Marlon

configure: error: Missing xgettext tool.

You have to install that.

...but why are you building it by yourself? I'm not in Ubuntu, but can't you install DrumGizmo via the repo?

Currently working with
https://www.honeysuckers.rocks/?lang=en
Fiddling with sequencers does not evolve into music necessarily and Mac users have smelly feet and guzzle little children.

Or simply use the plugin version?

I often just extract the lv2 or the .so vst from an installer of a plugin to throw into my plugin folder. This does not always work though: sometimes I do need to install it properly.

PS: you can get a lot of plugins from https://kx.studio/Repositories:Plugins

... I just followed the instructions on the Drumgizmo page.
Installation procedure looks quite complicated.
xgettool. I take a look. Thx.

I just solved the problem by installing Reaper!
Drumgizmo seems to work there.
Tomorrow I am going to download a drumkit and then I will know for sure. :)
