I'm glad to be here
My name is jaimie I live in Canada
I got a Rubix22 interface maybe a week ago, trying to see if I need windows to use it or if I can keep it debian, I have 30 days to return it from when I got it so I am trying to figure it out before then.. if I could even return it by shipping I'm not sure. I'm not great at computers all that. :?
I have jack set up but I read up on here people mentioning ardour  . I first used protools and then I got used to Logic, now I have dl'd rosegarden. I guess wish me luck because I don't know what I am doing. I am happy this forum exists

Haha thanks I'm getting confused with this thing, and I can't find much about it.

I never could figure out Rosegarden. MuseScore fills that niche for me.

This is where it's quite important to try out several options. What is plain as day for one person may be quite incomprehensible for someone else.

Re: I'm glad to be here
Rosegarden is intuitive for me, but using the Rubix22 is not. I'm not sure how to use it without windows or mac
Re: I'm glad to be here
It seems like the Rubix22 is a class compliant device, so it should just work. Maybe the problem is that Rosegarden (and other DAWs in the linux world) use jack as a low latency audio system. It could be that Rosegarden is executing jack automatically and jack is using the default, onboard audio card. At least the first time, I would say it is a good idea to launch qjackctl (Jack control) before Rosegarden and select the Rubix22 via Setup, Settings, Parameters, Interface (Driver must be "alsa" which is the default). Then start jack via Start button and then Rosegarden.
If you make acoustic music rather than midi sequencing, I would say ardour is a better option, but it is good you try several options, of course.
Welcome!

Re: I'm glad to be here
That can be configured.
Edit -> Preferences -> Audio -> Start JACK automatically
Linux – MOTU UltraLite AVB – Qtractor – http://suedwestlicht.saar.de/

Thanks a lot for the input, I'll look over everything and try again when I hook up my computer. I just rearranged my desk.

Re: I'm glad to be here
I don't know much about technical stuff and I haven't set up things like this from the ground up before. . .
This is what is happening:
^ I try for input/output as Rubix22
^ It states, "Failed to open audio device"
^ It only runs set to HD-Audio Generic, which I assume is my card within the computer. I can tell the mic picks up a little sound, maybe it's because of this.

Re: I'm glad to be here
It looks like JACK is running, but you are trying to start Ardour with ALSA. Try connecting to JACK instead.
