Re: Artificial Intelligence - DnB
Been listening to this all afternoon. Wanted to digest it a bit so that I would have something to say. I must admit that it took me a few times through to warm up to this one, but now I'm not sure why because I think it's a good track. As always, your sound engineering is really good -- lots of ear candy in this track. I like the stuttering drumbeat. The brass-like synth melody that first comes in at 0:48 keeps reminding me of "A Forest" by The Cure because of some melodic similarities.
Maybe what took me a while to warm up to the track is that the arc or progression is fairly subtle. Voices come in and out of the song, so there are frequent changes to keep it interesting, but it is not easy to discern the emotional meaning of the changes, so it is harder to connect with them. Does that make sense? After a few times through I started to feel that there is a climax building at about 4:00-4:25, and then it backs off as the song winds down to its conclusion. Not sure exactly why I couldn't hear that the first times, but as soon as I got the arc of the piece I enjoyed it a lot more.

Thanks Milo. I think the bass it too loud and the last two days I tried to change / improve it. Now I went back to the old version and just lower the volume of the bass. Interesting that you hear "A FOREST" I'm a big THE CURE fan (more in the past than today). Yup the climax is starting at 4:00. I thought bringing this part earlier, but then it's no climax anymore. The vocals are from STEPHEN HAWKING.

The wobbles sound really cool, I'd have loved the drums to be more tighter or bpm to be slightly faster, but that maybe because i listen to a lot of pendulum. Really fun track.

I really like this production. Every part has a place where it fits neatly on the soundstage. There's plenty going on, but none of it overwhelms or demands undue attention.
That bassline at 3:12 would make a great djent riff. It's got just the right amount of groove, but still manages to be crushing.

I exchanged the bass part as it sounded muddy.

Thanks Glen. I think the mix can still be improved, but I'm still learning. I think the bass is still too loud. It's quite difficult to get this right, especially with small monitors or in not fully treated rooms.GMaq wrote:Hi!
Great sounds throughout the whole thing! Absolutely loved the drum samples and programming! Terrific mix too!
