Hello everybody, i'm polk9!
I follow since a lot of time LinuxMusicians forum to prepare my migration on GNU/Linux all-day audio production.
I do music everyday (that's my work) since 15 years. I started music production in 2007/08 with LMMS on Ubuntu... (was hard but i learned a lot). After this, i went back to Windows with Reason 5. I bought Bitwig 3 years ago with the long term objective to switch definitely to GNU/Linux (windows 10 is a great pressure)
Now i'm on Ubuntu Studio 19.04 since one month and i'm really happy to see what's possible and how it's easy ! What a progression ! I use it everyday.
I'm using Bitwig Studio 2.4.3 and Harrison Mixbus 5 32C, I'm discovering LSP plugins which are amazing, I see that Carla and all the other KXstudio stuff are really solid, and Calf had really a great progression oO
As instruments, i'm mainly using bitwig native synths and drums, i also discovered Surge one month ago, which is really good (now, i use it everyday). I used to play a lot Analog Lab, and other plugins from Arturia, but the project is to play the least possible Windows plugins for maximizing DSP.
About me :
I'm a drum teacher, playing in instrumental rock band, also having a rap band, and i have my solo electronic project since I began electronic music.
Thanks for reading, and happy to enter LinuxMusicians !
Cheers to all!

Yes, the improvements to Linux in general have made it so much better than 10 years or so ago! I used to keep going back and forth between Windows & Linux but I finally stuck with Linux last year. I'll tell you one tool that really helped me to stick around - Timeshift. If you haven't got it already then get it! It's a life saver when your system gets screwed up somehow and you don't know how to fix it. It's similar to System Restore on Windows.
I also planned ahead when I was on Windows knowing that the it was only a matter of time until I properly made the switch. One thing I never managed to swap out was my DAW. I've tried so many Linux DAWs and none of them are enough to make me switch over to something native. The only one I would really consider at this point in time is Bitwig Studio, like you're using. But I won't buy it because the pricing is ridiculous. I'm ok with the initial price of the program, but to have to keep paying £150 (or whatever it is) per year for updates is just too much! But one day I'm sure there'll be a good sollution. Until then, I'll use FL Studio in Wine Although, that's stopped working for some reason and I don't know why ;( This is why it's not good to rely on using Windows programs on Linux
Anyway, welcome back and I hope you'll stick around!

It's matter of choice, I think I'd maybe choose T7 or Ardour if I had to be full-scroogelike Bitwig upgrade plan is really scandalous but they know that the soft is really great, it is really stimulating about creation, all the tools are bundled-in and there are infinite possibilities about sculpting sounds. Ardour and Mixbus seems to be more focused on the "sound engineer" job, I use it for recording my band and i'm really satisfied (i even think that the next album will be recorded on Mixbus), but creating with synths, electronic drums, finding original effects, etc... It's clearly not impossible on it, but the way to do it is clearly more fun and faster with the BW way... But I always keep in mind that one time i'll do music with only libre softwares and plugins, just matter of time, knowledge and habits.I also planned ahead when I was on Windows knowing that the it was only a matter of time until I properly made the switch.
