What:
  1. Make a music track:
    1. "in-the-style-of" a well-known artist or song of your choosing,
    2. using a recording of a physical sound source, made by yourself,
    3. using only Open Source software (exception: proprietary DAWs).
  2. Upload it to archive.org under a Creative Commons license
  3. Submit it into the competition.
Before you enter the competition, be sure to read the detailed rules!

When:

The competition starts on September 19th, 2019 and runs for one month until the end of October 19th, 2019.

Who:

Everybody (i.e. every natural person) can enter the competition.

The tools to use are Free Software and getting started with music production using Open Source software is easy and free to everyone!

Winning:

The winner of the competition is selected by general vote.

Voting starts on October 20th, 2019 and is open for seven days.

The entry receiving the most points wins and will be presented at the third Sonoj Convention, which takes place on the weekend of October 26th / 27th in Cologne.

Second and third places will be awarded as well. We do not give out physical prizes, but the winners will receive fame and glory :) and the community as a whole also wins!

---

Please share this announcement with all interested parties. If you wish to sponsor prizes for the competition winners, please contact the organizer!

Too bad for me: "Your audio track MUST be created specifically for this competition, not released elsewhere before."

It takes longer for me to create a song that's good enough for me (and for others). So I can't upload my little hommage to Rammstein "Die Ferne" since I already released it on Soundcloud.

Some similarity in vocals, but track itself does not remind Rammstein too much. However, nice track.

Still struggling with the lyrics for my next song.

I once submitted 1 second of audio to a "submit 1 second of audio" compilation. The organizer just joined them all end to end and put the result online. Fortunately I got in early and mine was # 17 or something. While I was playing this for my friends, I talked over the first 16 seconds and then bade them be silent and appropriately respectful for my second. I can't even remember what I did, but I was also jealous of some of the other seconds I heard because they were more creative than mine. Ultimately I probably put about 20 minutes into that one second, which is a pretty bad ratio. So I agree, the idea that I can come up with a SONG in a month is pretty outrageous. Be interesting to hear what people come up with.
