The Midnight / Hubble Space Telescope

Post by psyocean »

Greetings, LinuxMusicians! :)

Last month, I recorded few improvisations, a couple of them will present here.

1. "The Midnight" - mystical mood short cello/voice track.

2. "Hubble Space Telescope" - downtempo cosmic-theme piano improvisation.

Both tracks sounded by the module Roland XV-5080 and recorded on Audacity.

These are on the dark side of things. The second one is certainly not "downtempo" though. They are nice, but because of the rather dark heaviness, it asks for a lot of proper mood attention to fully appreciate, which might not be available at the moment of listening.

As improvisations, they are quite good though.

Cheers.

"The Midnight" is interesting. The two voices are mostly in unison (though in different octaves), although they split here and there for brief moments. I found myself wishing for more counterpoint. Maybe I listen to too much Baroque. :) Overall I like this sound, and I think you should keep developing it past the improve stage.

"Hubble Space Telescope" feels like it is trying to go somewhere . . . and then never quite gets anywhere. Maybe that's what it feels like to be in orbit. I like the chromatic scale you explore just before and after the 2:00 mark.

You get some nice sounds out of that Roland.

Jonetsu, Milo, many thanks for comments!

Usually I record a lot of different sketches, ideas, simple strokes during play music, most of them are unsuccessful, but for the time being they are stored in a common pile of files. Then I cast and take one or a couple of tracks out of this dregs :)

First one is too short, second one is great. I like both of them. There is quite a lot of dynamic, maybe it would help to add a bit of compression.
