which song is coming out of your speakers right now?

Completely and utterly unrelated.

Kit Watkins and Coco Roussel used to play together in a progressive rock band called Happy the Man,....
Wow Milo ! This is a blast from my past.. I got to see HTM quite a few times, back in their hay day in and around the D.C. area. Sadly after a while i lost track of them. Lack of radio airplay didn't help, either.

from the wiki... - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_the_Man

"The band's early repertoire included a number of covers - notably Genesis’s "Watcher of the Skies", King Crimson’s "21st Century Schizoid Man" and Van der Graaf Generator’s "Man-Erg" - but they were soon outnumbered by original compositions, penned by Fortney, Watkins, Whitaker, and Wyatt, with the latter providing the lion's share of new material. In 1975 they moved closer to Washington, DC, where they got the attention of DJs at WGTB (Georgetown University radio), who helped break the band in DC. The station played their music, aired their interview, announced and sponsored their concerts and kept them in front of listeners."

The Watkins and Roussel material is a great find. I was an intern at that radio station the summer of that year, so this kinda hits home in an interesting way. Thanks for sharing... :D

Two great pieces, very different. I like Can since quite sometime, having done an homage to Jaki Liebezeit 2 years ago:

Which is a play on words with "Flow Motion", the title on a Can album. I tend to prefer the later material, such as "Landed", "Flow Motion" and "Saw Delight".

This one is a gem with Karoli doubling on violin.

"Laugh till you cry, Live till you die"

As well as this one. Priceless:

Cascade Waltz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScaXwEI-slE

Saw a sign, said "Don't Stop"
Kept on up, to the top
Reached the summit, looked around
Heartbeat was the only sound
The land that flowed with milk and honey
Girls and cars and sex and money
A spaceship flew across the sky
Inside an astronaut softly cried

Does anyone here really understand
What goes on in the heart of a man?
Does anyone here really understand
What goes on in the heart of a man?

Hmm hmm hmm...

A 12-minute 'documentary' on the upcoming Magma piece "Zëss" and philharmonic concert dates in Paris. "Zëss" dates from 1979 and was never recorded formally. Apart from the introduction, the piece is made of two repeating chords and the same drum beat for at least 30 minutes. The drums will be handled by Swedish drummer Morgan Ågren.

Magma is playing now since about 45 years. The clip is well-made, with good excerpts from the piece. Dialogues and comments are in French with English sub-titles. The Prague philharmonic assures the orchestral parts. Christian Vander, founder, composer and drummer assures the vocals. Vander is influenced by John Coltrane, Otis Redding and Elvin Jones.

Olafur Arnalds makes some beautiful ambient music with a combination of acoustics and electronics: https://www.npr.org/2018/07/19/63012638 ... sk-concert

I've listened to some Olafur Arnalds. Since I wanted something longish w/o audience interaction, I've chose the first youtube search hit, which is a 'best of' of more than an hour. It's piano-based, and I like the piano when it does sequence-like textures with which violins weave in and around. The vocals are light and aerial I'd say. There are some percussion from time to time, perhaps in the vein of some smooth Peter Gabriel percussion textures. In the best parts I find that the music breathes a natural agility which is very nice.

Nowadays it seems that a lot of smooth music gets tagged under 'ambient' for lack of anything else. I still cling to the perhaps old-fashion definition of ambient music as being one that fits with furniture in a room so to speak. It's there and it does not grab, or try to grab, the listener. Arnalds' music however tend to have sad minor tones, punctuated here and there by brighter passages. After close to an hour, which some passages clearly veering into the sadness part of the palette, it becomes a bit heavy as it involves - or tries to - the listener with sad emotions. A bit is OK, too much is something else, I find.

All in all a good find. Thanks for sharing.

Darjeeling by Barrie: https://barrie.bandcamp.com/album/happy-to-be-here.

Just stumbled on this via my Bandcamp feed - such a nice, breezy vibe to them. Puts me into a summer-y mindset.

Lately i'm really feeling the band "Hybrid". There are some wonderous tunes with impressive videos too(!) on vimeo.com ...
use the search function for "Hybrid" and then use the drop-down menu ("more") to select "music" so you don't get a bunch of false positives.

The band is famous for "Disappear Here" but they have lots of other extremely impressive songs.
Their videos are ultra top notch too.

And it's nice to step off and away from YouTube for a while too.

Decidedly this week was drummer Jojo Mayer's week.

This is a full concert at the Babylon Bomonti, Istanbul, 2015:

I was very well surprised by discovering that a favorite band, Koenjihyakkei, has surfaced up after many years. They performed two concerts in Russia, in Moscow and St-Petersburg. Both were recorded, and not bad at all for a simple way, sound and video are all right.

The St-Petersburg video (May 14th) starts with a vocal solo. Total runtime 1h14

The Moscow concert (May 15th) video is 1h42

Or mostly in French: "Le vide" ("Von hier an Blind")

"Aurélie"
