Evening Jam Reloaded (Rock Track)

Post by English Guy »

A jam recorded some time pre 2005, originally with a drum loop. Not sure what I originally recorded on (I think Muse and Slackware Linux). The reloaded version was done with Harrison Mixbus on Ubuntu Studio. The drums were redone with Drumgizmo.

That is some screaming guitar tone! What tools did you use on it? Is that a software amp or a hardware one? Do have a copy of your 2005 mixdown for comparison?

The guitar distortion is an old zoom 505 pedal and a cry baby wah. The whammy effect is the zoom pedal. The guitar is a Les Paul copy I no longer have, alas. I think it was through my 50w Marshall solid state amp,. The added sauce is Harrison's 3D delay and gverb+.

The bass was problematic and the gxcabinet plugin set to a fifteen inch speaker made a huge difference.

I do have the old mix, I am on my phone at the moment but I will look it out. The bandlab mastering made a huge difference and I can show pre and post mastering.

Wow! The difference between the old and new versions is stunning. The mixing levels are better, the drums are better, the instrument tones are improved. Better all around in the new mastering. Fine work!

As Wallace once said to Gromit, "It's surprising what a lick of paint'll do."

Thanks for the kind words. Drumgizmo is awesome. I am also a fan of Mixbus. Having started on analogue gear it suits me. Linux music has grown so much in the last few years.

I certainly like the muddy bass on the background and the drum over it.
Very beefed up, even without the guitar soloing over it. 8)

Keep rocking !!
