Looks like you're better without that stick.

Removed the stick. And now it's this:

Code: Select all

 free

Mem: 3093788 621612 2472176 79984 59960 351856

That's strange. lshw recognises the ram but free doesn't. Make sure all the sticks are clicked in their slots, then boot again.

Makes no difference. Has this something to do with it?

I saw in another thread you were thinking about replacing your CMOS battery. If you take the battery out that will reset the BIOS to its defaults, and I think that would fix this. You had a higher value using free earlier when you first put in the two extra sticks.

When you take the battery out, wait 20 seconds before putting another one in, and that will reset the BIOS.

You've fixed it. Did you take the battery out?

Yes - and after putting it in again I restored the default values of BIOS (by pressing F2 if I remember well). From there on the total RAM memory looked OK again.

But I found on the internet that there might be a good reason for the checked free memory being different from the installed RAM memory, at least after using your computer for a while. See:

https://www.linuxatemyram.com/

I will leave the hardware as it is for now, that is until I might need extra speed and/or memory.
