Flow Notion

Post by jonetsu »

How far can a single riff go on while still leaving some sense of freshness, shadowing the repetitions ? This is a piece I created about 3 years ago when I learned about the passing away of Jaki Liebezeit, drummer of the German band Can. It revolves about a guitar riff, with atmospheric and rhythmic variations here and there.

The title is a pun on a Can album titled "Flow Motion".

Cheers.

Great, I too am a Can fan!

I dig the groove very much and how the drum and synth interact.

I like this tune a lot. You did a good job of keeping things fresh through the composition. The sounds work together well, but I don't like the accordion/harmonica synth sound as well as the guitar.

I just love your sound. It is so good!

Here's an actual piece from Can, from the album "Flow Motion". While having produced a substantial of musical experimentation, textures and rhythms on previous albums, Can started with the album "Landed" to be more down-to-earth. "Flow Motion" was the second album in that vein.

Did you know, Jaki Liebezeit used Morse-code for composing music?
He even had planned to make a book about all of this, but never started or finished it.
There was some effort to finish after he passed away, though I don't know how far this has gone.

Myself mostly knows him by name and never listened really to Can itself.
But, without knowing of his attempt to use Morse-code for composing music,
I have a similar project done.

In 2015 I've had written a program where I can enter text, which will be converted into Morse-code and then creates
a Hydrogen song file from that created Morse-code. After loading this file into Hydrogen exporting it to .mid the created Rhythm is usable in any MIDI-Sequencer.

However, maybe I should listen to some of this...

I didn't know, thanks for sharing. Some of those guys were music geniuses, including former vocalist Damo Suzuki!
