New Music: Mountain Foothills Hotel (v.1)

Post by nickture »

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served on this gray November day in the Northeast US. I've finally gotten around to uploading a small summer project that I had a lot of fun making. All of the composition was done in LMMS (which is really starting to grow on me btw), with EQ, effects, and the final mixing done in Ardour. Cover art was my first foray into using Krita; I really have no experience using that or anything like it but I had fun experimenting. Here's hoping I'll get better at it as time goes on! OS used was good ol' AV Linux on my studio PC and Arch on my laptop (for the cover design and uploading).

Sort of like a programmatic soundtrack to a movie or TV show that doesn't exist (except in my head ) - this is the first of possibly multiple explorations into this world. I've been on an OST kick for a little while, so this is my first attempt at that style. I'd love to know what you all think of this - all feedback is welcome and appreciated!!

What is OST? I only know it as a weird Outlook-related email attachment I can't open. ;)

I like the music. Very evocative.

Thanks for listening! OST stands for "original sound track"; there's a pretty big community of fans/artists on Bandcamp and the internet in general for this type of music. It's not all synth-based too, so it's pretty diverse. Definitely worth checking out!

Very atmospheric, good job! The 2nd one (Amanda) is probably my favourite of the three.

I think these are effective as soundtrack pieces. The short length of them all leaves me wanting more. The third track seems to be the most developed musically. That sounds like a real saxophone; it's hard to get a synth to sound that good, and I can't imagine doing it in LMMS. The electric guitar also sounds real. I like the tone you have chosen on that guitar sound - a very rich timbre.

Thanks! I appreciate that! This is what makes me proud to be part of this community - we all share things we're passionate about and encourage one another. Now if only the rest of the world at large were like this...

I agree that you have taste. This is a very nice set of tracks, shows a lot of potential for things to come if you stick at it! Soul Searcher is the one I liked the most.
