Cosmic lullaby

Post by psyocean »

Greetings, LinuxCosmonauts! :)

In June I recorded improvisation on a synthesizer (Sound module Roland XV-5080). Split mode for midi-keyboard. Recording and mixing in Audacity.

On the track for the background design was used cosmic sounds from the NASA site: cosmonauts' radio communications, electromagnetic radiation of planets, stars, galaxies, black holes, etc, converted into sound signals.

Duration 19 min.

It has a calming, relaxing and sleepy effect, as a remedy is recommended against insomnia :)

I like its nice old (70s Krautrock) atmosphere. There is some distortion at around e.g. 3:09.

Reminds me of old Popol Vuh.

I'm afraid (in my view) you scored an own goal with this one.
I'm never keen of voiceovers, so was a bit disappointed at the start of this, then just as I was really getting into the mood there was that quite loud burst that totally wiped out the atmosphere, and I never really got it back. I gave up with that later distorted 'background' speech.

It's obviously a smooth piece, cosmic perhaps, and it fulfills the intent. I was kind of waiting for the loud burst mentioned by Folderol but the piece went by and I haven't noticed it. :) But then I was not solely listening to the piece as it was more in the background.

The lead synth sounds a lot like one of those in those times. It could be interesting to record in a proper DAW and automate some FX here and there, like maybe chorus and delay fromt ime to time, to add some perspective to the lead synth.

Those longer atmospheric pieces are most always nice, if only because of the degree of immersion in creating them.

Cheers.

Folderol, Jonetsu, thanks for comments, guys! Making track with cosmic sounds it was an experiment for me. By the way in the field of space scince there is a huge number of different kinds of fraud, and even hallucinations
