Moe Joe - I'm Alright (Ramón Pankow Mix)

Post by vitaminx »

Hi folks,

This is my submission for the MC049 Mix Challenge, this time it's a Blues:

https://soundcloud.com/vitaminx/moe-joe ... pankow-mix

The song is a production by the Blues Quartett "Moe Joe" and it is a session recording from 2008.

I really like old Blues recordings, so my goal was to come as close as possible to a 60s vintage sound, maybe resembling a live session, so I tried not to use too modern mixing techniques, of course no pitch or timing correction either.

Everything's done with Reaper on Debian Linux.

Have fun listening :)

As a 60's teenager I can confirm this has a pretty authentic sound both from the performance and production. However, it is somewhat cleaner than those times, and stereo separation is better. nevertheless, very well done.

Yes I guess that's true.

I've already added a whole lot of analogueness and saturation:
- u-he Satin tape emulator (vintage settings)
- TesslaPro MKII console emulation
- TDR VOS SlickEQ saturation
- Klanghelm IVGI

But I usually dial them back a little once I hear distortion, but maybe I'm a little too careful with them.

Hmmm, not sure about this one, take for example this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ3sBcQBDtU
Which has quite extreme panning.

I recall that I hear hard left or right panning quite often in older mixes.

Thank you folderol :)
