sorry if I scared people away with the fake press release.
It was sort of a performance art/sattire.
The music is good, though.

I could undestand it if some people could not smile about this one - I, personally, could - it's a nice persiflage on sensationalism.

But a different remark, after some time of looking on: what if, instead of using linuxmusicians.com (and others) as a tool for marketing your frequent releases to a fanbase, you'd look at it as a place for meeting fellow musicians at eye level?

I mean, I'm kind of grateful for everything that brings some life in here, but seeing the same name all over is making a forum less, not more attractive to me, it sort of discourages engaging in a serious convo, since it probably will get scrolled out of the first page too fast - why not group releases more? - and I really don't need kicks like 'download for free', reminds me of crappy flash banners on shady websites, I've never charged a penny for anything I've posted here, and although this forum hasn't any conditions about licensing, 95% of things I've seen in here were free to download, and 99.9% free to stream in any case, why not a $77 free voucher for signing up in an online casino if you want to be special ? ;-)

I'd probably feel a little less like having stepped into a social media strategy, if I'd hear more about the musician's perspective - what tools did you use, what's new in the production approach you trried out in this particular bunch of songs - and yes, I'm definitely also interested in how reaching an audience is working from your perspective, how many plays you're getting and from where (I, for example, tend to get 15-30 instant slowly moving up towards 100 in the following 1/2 year, if I unobtrusively post a song in here, but getting comments from people whose expertise I respect, is the most valuable feedback to me).

Don't take it too serious, this is only one opinion, others certainly appreciate your posts, or they wouldn't get answers; maybe this is just a personal wound spot of mine, but summing it up, while some competitiveness is healthy and boosting creativity, on the whole, I'd like to feel more like sharing experiences than more or less subtly competing for a place in the sun. And probably this is a bigger issue not only concerning you & me, it just happened so that I felt like now was the time to say a word.

I was surprised to see that my last one, 'Escape of the Hopping Rhinos' went to 210 listens and 8 likes in less than a month. Maybe the title has a lot to do ... It also has three remixes on Cambridge-MT multitrack library.

I certainly agree that sharing thoughts and details makes it much more interesting. I like both reading about others' thoughts and sharing mine, on all levels. Sometimes though I get the feeling that this is considered only as blabla and an excess of text lines, but usually this feeling does not remain much longer than a few seconds.

I'll start by adding some text to the above song posted here.

Cheers.

Sometimes when I see a tune posted I might not have the time to really listen to it, and so it's skipped. I certainly have skipped this one here. Again, quite a good tune with nice happenings. Also ends on a funny note I find.

Of course, I could go into a detailed description of the listening(s), but I'll take the opportunity that firestandgarden has underlined to add some comments to my latest instead.

This is not in the same style that you do, altough you might find it interesting to listen to. It's my all-time favorite band, Magma, now into their 48 years of existence. Based on drummer Christian Vander who composes everything, this live take taken during a 1-month series of concert, 5 per week, at the same venue in Paris, 3 other original members. This said, any musician playing in Magma has to have something special. Magma rarely adds new pieces to their repertoire.

This is an excerpt from "Da Futura". "Da Futura" asks the question, could there be living entities that are to us what we are to robots ? In other words, are we just but (sophisticated) machines ? I find that one very nice moment happens at exactly 6:13.

And here's a Japanese cover done by drummer Tatsuya Yoshida (Koenjihyakkei and more) and co. 4 years ago. The also duplicated the double bass playign which is essential to the piece.

Cheers.

Thanks very much, jonetsu.

I've been away from the internet for a while.
I accidentally forgot my password phrase :D (cue laughter).
So I had to delete several months of work and restart again.
Also, I was trying to spend more time being slightly social rather than just holed up in a basement making tunes as usual.

Thanks so much for the comment. I will check out the band you mentioned when I can, thanks.

@forestandgarden,

Thanks very much for such an in-depth response.
I will have to think more about what you've said.
I do understand, though.

I'm not really trying so much to "market" my tunes, I just don't have anybody else much to share them with.
I do talk about how I make my tunes sometimes; I think you are correct, I should discuss that part more.
