I have some fun with VCVRack, the octatonic scale, and allegory.

He posted the wrong link, that's the one that he can use to edit the video.

Re: The hunt of orion
Ah! That's better
Interesting discussion on scales.
I never could really 'get' modulars, neither hardware nor soft, but that's just me.
I enjoyed the final result - a good bit of story telling.

Re: The hunt of orion
I was mostly into playing blues when modulars were popular, so no, I didn't get them either. However, I'm very excited about the possibilities, and I'm slowly learning how to compose in a modular environment. The process is quite different from most of the work I've done with synths, I'm having a ball learning a new way of doing old things.folderol wrote:...I never could really 'get' modulars, neither hardware nor soft, but that's just me.

Re: The hunt of orion
Thanks for correcting the link, sorry about that!
There's definitely a learning curve to modular synths, and I would probably not be so excited if I hadn't taken that college course that included modular synths. I think the key to appreciating them is understanding what they really excel at. Expressive and unique leads, weird analog sound effects, heavily-modulated sounds, etc.
Practically worthless for emulation, and (at least in the case of VCVRack) essentially monophonic.

Re: The hunt of orion
Interesting experimental way produce music classical styles with analog synthesis devises or emulation soft. I think, that top end of evolution on this branch will be comeback from computer instruments to the physical acoustic cello, flutes, organs, haprichords, etc
Well done!
