Help find a genre for this music ?
Hello,
Here's one I just made. I am stuck when it comes to find a genre for this. Rock ? Progressive rock ? Can you suggest something ?
Comments welcomed !

There's a little touch of Air (nice!)
Air's sound is often referred to as electronica and their music has also been characterized as downtempo, and space rock. They were influenced by psychedelic and progressive rock pioneers Pink Floyd

Thanks for the comments.
'Urban Carnivore Mating Music' : He he, there are pros and cons with coming up with something so exclusive. It's colourful for one thing, but then people will not have a quick reference. Could be western. Or ska. Whatever. In case of a 'whatever' people could simply not bother going further. Of course, only interesting people should listen to this music but, in a general sense, I wouldn't mind giving hints, if possible, to what the music is just by the genre.
'Air' : Cool. I mean, did not know about this band, am listening to some, nice. Makes me think a bit about Thievery Corporation from Washington DC, as in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCjIaFcCwl0
What I do is a bit more upbeat though, more yang.
'Ambient' : not sure. There are many styles of ambients, most are far off the original no-rhythm style. It seems as asoon as one incorporates 'washes of sound-noise' it can be call ambient something. I would maybe go for a variation of ambient, but for me everything says that's not ambient, too much rhythm.
Someone in LAU came up with 'synth rock' which does reflect the fact that there are synths in there. But it's certainly not synthwave.
From the way some of these tunes are built, the acoustic guitar plays a role, event though it might not be forefront that much in the end, it is still there.
Hmmm... how about 'organic synth rock'. Organic is trendy, Gaia and all that. Or shorter: 'o-synth rock' or even 'o-synth' ?

They were associated with the "french touch" trend during the end of the nineties even if their music wasn't (and still isn't) heavily filtered house because they are french. Imho, there is a lot to learn in the mixing/mastering department by simply carefully listening to their tracks. I don't know if it's available outside France and Germany but you can see a nice live session here. And yeah, I'm a big fanjonetsu wrote:'Air' : Cool. I think this can be described as some kind of electronica. This is definitely not rock. Maybe it's close to kraut rock, but still not — groove section doesn't fit any rock-based genre.

Re: Help find a genre for this music ?
Although I do find it easiest to categorize anything with synth pop unless in is obviously in a different genre like trance.
It is easy enough to write music which doesn't really fit into any mainstream genre. I mean as a songwriter you just make something up. Worry about genre later.

Re: Help find a genre for this music ?
People get too hung up on genres - they mean nothing! It's the music that matters, and this is good - no matter that everything would classify it differently

In general, yall are right about during the production process. However, genre can matter a lot when adding metadata for distribution and social sites.

Re: Help find a genre for this music ?
I know what you mean, but once you've made the song, sometimes it can be baffling to identify the genre.

Baffling, sure. But that's a different conversation. Identifying a track's genre is important when it comes time for distribution and marketing.
