LinVST - working plugs / libraries you use for compatibility (March 2019)

Post by Mk2 »

hello mates !

i would like to know what vst plugins work and what wine libraries do you use for your VST ?

here is a little list i done...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

(it is a "all-together" list... each plugs on a traxx in bitwig.... wine-staging latest, 3.4 or 4.3....)

i use here wine library "d2d1" & "gdiplus" on wine-staging...

=====================================================================

--------------------------------------- WORKING ---------------------------------------

Serum :

+ works nice with "d2d1" library disabled. (if you use only this plugin...)
+/- seems working ok without D2D1 but vst x64 crashes and x32 seems working, but text is bugued for patch names and some GUI elements..

Omnisphere (2.5 is x64 only) :

+ works ~ almost good (but slow) with "gdiplus" library.. but sounds/midi plays "program 2", not 1... no pb... apart if u need all 8 programs for a "multi", u will lack program 1... but so add 8 omnisphere traxx...
- crash with "D2D1" library "disabled"...

ABL2 :

+ works normally....
- some little GUI bugs,
- buttons are "decayed" when recognized by bitwig... (bitwig recognize cutoff as resonance, resonnance as env.mod...) but automation names of bitwig are real functions (cutoff is cutoff, reso is reso...)

FerricTDS :

+ works... no issue spotted.

Image-Line Vocodex :

+ works,
- presets name not visible... (maybe disable d2d1 library in wine ???....)

Xenium Audio XR-1 :

+ works.

De la mancha GTO / GTX :

+ works...

LoudMax :

+ works.

Max-1 / MAX1 :

+ works,

Audiothing Outer-Space :

+ works ;-)

TDR Nova :

+ works.

TDR Kotelnikov :

+ works ;)

TDR Feedback Compressor II :

+ works..

ThrillseekerLA / ThrillseekerVBL / ThrillseekerXTC :

+ works..

TLs SaturatedDriver / Pocket Limiter :

+ works.

Working plugs ? OK, here goes.

Libraires ? none. I mean, no library was installed to support plugins.

Setup: wine-staging wine-4.0-rc7 installed from package, linvst compiled from source (January 2019 - 64-bit support only), Xubuntu 18.04 LTS, Bitwig 2.4.3, Mixbus32C 5.1. Plugins works in both. winetricks corefonts was used for the Image Line vector-based softsynths.

Slightly formatted from the directory listing:

Code: Select all

AAS/
AAS Player - Bitwig: will crash if minimized and brought back,
otherwise OK, just do not minimize

IK Multimedia/

Harmless - Bitwig: once minimized, bringing it back will show a
black window. Disactivating and reactivating audio will bring
back the UI. Mixbus32C : no such problem.
  Harmor - same
  Ogun - same
  Sytrus - same
  Morphine
Sakura - will not load the previously saved sound, must always
manually load the sound otherwise it will make some loud noise.

Klanghelm/
  DC1A3
  IVGI2
  MJUCjr

KV331/
  SynthMaster2
  SynthMaster2FX
  SynthMasterOne
  SynthMasterOneFX

LinPlug/
  CrX4
MorphoX 64 - some flickering of the UI when controls are moved
with the mouse. Less when assigned to MIDI controller
  SaxLab2 64
Spectral - a bit like Morphox

MeldaProduction/
(all)

PsychicModulation/
  EchoMelt
  Phonec 2

RobPapen/
Blue2 - might have some flicker of the X/Y pad
  Go2
  Predator2

Seaweed/
  Fathom

SonicCharge/
   Echobode
   Microtonic
   Synplant

SugarBytes/

Tone2/
  Akustix
ElectraX - takes a lot of resources making the UI slow. Otherwise OK.
  Icarus
  RayBlaster

thx jonetsu ! added your list to 1st post :

i'm trying to make & maintain a bit a big list on this forum. got maybe 20-30 plugs i use (10 always), bnut not too much, it kills creativity & plugins knowledge...

i added 2 plugs (ferricTDS & xenium audio XR-1), actually got issue with shell2vst (if you know a tip..) to extract waves .dll from wavesshell.dll.... and ILOK seems an error at install / wont work... (if u know already.... thx for help) .. i gonna do some search..

edit: ah btw, for me generally i use 2 libraries in wine-staging 64, its "gdiplus" & "d2d1", seems like most plugins work good, the ones i tested...

@jonetsu if i remember well it was you that wanted to test Omnisphere 2... it's not to tell you how to test... but just to say i must make further tests (mostly while composing/common usage...) with it.... but seems it's working ok, some slows sometimes (maybe due to HDD ?? on windows got it on SSD...), but generally it does whaty he's used to do. so it's a good news ! :D

(ps: i bought it in 3-4 times (so a credit..) at a french seller shop on internet... AT "pourlesmusiciens.com"....) but this synth for me is rated best VSTi ever... #1 so far.)

@Mk2 Forgot some notes about some plugins. So I added them. Apart from these few notes, which all have workarounds, everything else works just fine.

Omnisphere: no rush. I have enough synths and plugins to learn for the time being !

so it's better u never touch Omnisphere.... becoze u risk HEAVILY TO FALL TOTALLY IN LOVE ABOUT THIS & TOTALLY ADDICT & make folies lol !!! The patches are fabulous & it's SO good to learn from 'em. And this QUALITY.... omg... some patches equals some hard-synths, and maybe more !

to resume it totally worth it 380€. u just can't regret, u got all life to explore all 14000 sounds, multis...etc...

* if u create ambiant / textures / aethereal, just look no further....

.........................

for notes i gonna see if i add'em but people can look here too... i gonna look and maybe include em in 1st post or add comment to read the post..

edit: i'm testing/creating random stuffs with Omnisphere, i confirm the latency when u click a button it reacts almost direct-live, but when u change presets/patches it takes almost ~ 3-4 seconds...

i would like to install O2 on the SSD (for testing, why not using...) but i dunno how to add a folder in wine... (if you know..)

In Qtractor I can get no synthesizer .dll plugin whatsoever working with LinVST. All the buttons and knobs of the synths go berserk (keep on turning frantically, go on and off 1.000 times a second etc.). So my list is empty. LinVST bridged plugins might work in other DAW's though...

Just my 2 cents.

Correction: 32 bit VST's bridged via LinVST don't work in Qtractor. Downloaded a 64 bit one from here and it does work... For 32 bit (Windows) VST's in Qtractor you can use the DSSI bridged one or the Carla bridged one.

I can load all of my win vsts (synths make sound) in qtractor but none of the guis will show. Seems like there are a few problems there.
