Collaborative sound collage

I don't think i'm ready for full scale collaboration (though i'd like to try that some day as well), so i thought it might be a fun idea to start with "sound collage" kind of project. The idea is simple: whoever wants to join would send me some musical or unmusical recordings and i will then combine / filter / cut / remix them into supposedly more interesting compositions. The only condition is to share them under CC-BY-SA compatible license (which is going to be license of final album, as usual) and not be offended if a piece is not going to be prominent. I would also appreciate if you make recording specifically for this project, but existing ones are fine as well.

For my part, i'll be posting updates and promise to finish the project (if there's any interest in it) this summer (more likely sooner than later, though). I can't guarantee it will suit your tastes, but i'll put effort to make it at the very least interesting

Oooh, I like this idea, count me in. I'm thinking of contributing some original outdoor "field recordings", and maybe some improv on acoustic instruments. Should we agree on a key to play in, it just submit anything whatsoever?

Great, you're counted ;)

I think anything goes for starters. When there are half-made tracks and you want to specifically contribute to one of them, then we can coordinate keys. That said, last time i was making something like this (from existing tracks i found on the net - available e.g. here), i wasn't even trying to guess the key, though i think i used some pitchshifting for better match

Now that i have recordings from two contributors, i started to work on collaging them together. Here's a preview

Initially i didn't want to use my own recordings, but if i don't get more people involved, i probably will have to resort to that..

Now that i have three contributors, here's another update: http://127.0.0.1:43110/1FiHm91tcDdjkiGk ... ge-a-2.ogg / https://zn.amorgan.xyz/1FiHm91tcDdjkiGk ... ge-a-2.ogg

Considering there's not much participants, i'm thinking of cutting the project down to one track, but we'll see

(I don't have ZeroNet installed so this link currently won't work for me)
This link does not respond for me... eventually times out with a "504 Gateway Time-out" or produces a 404.

I think part of the reason for few contributors might be a "fear of the blank page" effect: if there's already some idea/startingpoint/vision/goal/... it's much easier to join in than when there's nothing yet - freedom can be intimidating :D.

Ah, sorry, there's something wrong with proxies and this file (other proxies seem to work just fine). I'll see if i can fix that and if it's impossible i'll upload somewhere else

I guess that might be true

The first one gives a cloudflare error, the second one an 'offline for maintenance', but the third one worked ;).

I doodled some bari sax low notes that might fit somewhere? https://arnout.engelen.eu/collage-bari.wav

Great ;) Not sure i'll be adding it to the track i posted above, but i can surely use it for another one.

To all: sorry for no updates recently. My enthusiasm kinda died, but i'll see whether i want to add anything to the track above and then maybe make another one shortly

And then, years later, i'm finally making a proper release of this track (as "history museum" on the upcoming marginal notes album). I'm going to attribute everyone who's samples i've used; by default i'll refer to users of this forum by their nicks, but if you'd like that changed (or even opt out of attribution), feel free to notify me anytime.
