Looking for workstaion keyboard with specific features

Post by hudkins »

Hi,

I hope this is the right section.

I'm looking for a workstation synth but I have some specific requirements. I mostly buy vintage synths and I'm looking for features along the lines of The Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif. I have a couple problems, though. Because of space constraints I can only get a 49 key form factor my budget is a mere $600 or less. It also has to be Linux compatible and not need any Windows based software for full functionality. These are the features that are the most important to me:
  • Linux Compatible
    49 key
Great instruments especially piano and orchestral
    expandability
editable synth sounds would be nice
Control of envelopes, filters and effects
I'll probably think of more little things as time goes on. It doesn't have to be used but it seems that's kinda where I'm at because of my price point.

I've never seen a 49 key workstation.
Maybe a rack version of workstation would work? With a generic midi controller?

You might consider getting a midi controller keyboard that has all of the other features you need, but doesn't make its own sound. Instead you could look into hosting virtual instruments on a computer. That way the physical keyboard is decoupled from the sound.
