DSP coprocessor?

Post by bluebell »

Anyone remembering the 387 coprocessor for doing floating point stuff in those times when some CPUs like 386sx couldn't do it?

How about a generic DSP coprocessor doing FFT and other stuff? Is there one? Are there plugins that use it?

Linux – MOTU UltraLite AVB – Qtractor – http://suedwestlicht.saar.de/

There are dsp dedicated processors like these http://www.analog.com/en/products/proce ... sharc.html but I believe those are for embedded plataforms not for pcs.

Your GPU, programmed with CUDA (NVIDIA) or OpenCL (AMD) is a more than capable DSP.

AFAIK this is not recomended for real time processing, but someone might know better.

Btw the UAD-1 card was a low cost graphicscard with the connectors removed.
