This is my first post so excuse me if a similar topic is pinned elsewhere, this seemed the best place to post this to.
What i'd like to know is ... if you were building a rig for digital audio what would you get today?
For example, will a current-generation Pentium or Celeron CPU do? (Currently I have a first gen i7 which does the job at adequate latency but the mobo/cpu is 7 years old).
What advantages, if any, would a solid-state drive offer over a standard HDD?
What should i look for in a motherboard and case?
thanks!

Re: new music rig
It really depends on what you are doing. I'm assuming you are recording live audio; how many tracks do your projects tend to be? What plugins are you using? You mentioned that your first gen i7 is adequate, which makes me wonder why you are thinking of replacing it. Just because it's old doesn't mean that it needs to be replaced.
Of course I'm the one who swiped spare parts when my brother upgraded his gaming rig, so maybe I'm not the best to make suggestions here.
