I don't know why people recommend "synth/workstation" type keyboards. You really only need MIDI out and everything else is available for free as software. I bought M-Audio Keystation 61, immediately thrown out it's disc (who needs proprietary software?) plugged USB jack in and that's all.

Except the sound will be produced by proprietary software and samples which I definitely don't want.
