what about trying AV-Linux? Much faster than Ubuntu. If you pair it up with more Gigs of Ram and an SSD? Apart from that I would recommend getting a refurbished Lenovo t400/t410/t420 or t500-520. Even some of the t430s/t530s do have firewire.

I'm looking for a permanent solution, like creating an audio workstation using a rack mounted server headless, accessed via ssh from whereever so and I'm looking for a refurbished Lenovo on the weband it's cheap and dirty solution! So I can save money to buy the server and use it only for live gigs!!!
I use my laptop during livesets and I have my oun software developed using Supercollider ... I just need to visualize my custom Gui to see what's going on...
If someone has any advice for rack mounted server I'll be happy to hear from you!!!
