Roland/Edirol UA-100

Post by wishmerhill »

Hi everyone!

Recently I bought an used Roland/Edirol UA-100 USB "thing" (review on this page). It's an old interface, which can't be controlled by ALSA or whatever: it's way too complex and needs some MIDI commands to be controlled - anyway, ALSA recognizes it and can use is as a plain audio interface, so that sound can be streamed through it to the speakers. More can't be done with plain ALSA - and more means a lot of nice effects and fine tuning of the volumes of the many channels it has.

The device itself is not a bad one, as for my understanding of the matter, just old and, actually, a bit obsolete.

There was, once, a small utility to get something more from this hardware. Micheal Minn wrote an OSS driver as well as a mixer utility for the UA-100, using C and Motif: making it work with ALSA is a bit difficult, so I decided to write a mixer myself.

My choice was PyQT.

If anyone is interested, here is the source code and a screenshot.

Any help, correction, suggestion or whatever, is WELCOME!
