Intel HDMI audio working under kernel 3.15+

Post by danboid »

I've got HDMI audio working properly (no break-ups, distortion or high-pitched audio) on my System76 Gazelle Pro which has an Intel 4600 GPU.

I'm running the latest KXStudio (Ubuntu 14.04) but I've installed the 3.15.6 lowlatency kernel because HDMI audio output does not work correctly with the standard 14.04 3.13.x kernel.

If you've got an Intel GPU and want to use HDMI audio under Ubuntu, download & install the kernel image and headers from here:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...3.15.6-utopic/

I had to select hw:HDMI,7 [HDMI 1] as my audio output device under Cadence and that was it - I now have a fully functional Linux laptop!
