Lump of coal, or 4 free U-he linux synths?
For visitors new to linux audio, or just short on stocking stuffers
for the synthesizer addicts in the family, U-he have four free
linux plugin instruments:
TyrellN6
Podolski
TripleCheese
Zebralette installs as a separate part of the full Zebra2 demo installation.
The full version runs unrestricted for about 13 minutes, when it grabs control of the
pitch of your keystrokes, until reloaded in your host.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allso, the linux version of Beatzille might be in the archive listed here, if you're lucky.
(should include mac/win versions too)
http://www.vstplanet.com/Instruments/VS ... #Beatzille
Beatzille is a light bersion of Bazille. Beatzille license readme states
"This software may be freely distributed under the following conditions:
- this license agreement must accompany the software
- the software must be distributed free of charge, it may not be exploited commercially in any way
- the software is not modified so that its intended core functionality (as an audio plugin) is altered
- no parts of the software are reverse engineered, decompiled, disassembled etc..
- no text or graphic information (such as labels or copyright notices) are removed or changed".
It was first released as magazine-ware in Beat magazine,
and then as BazilleCM in Computer Music Magazine,
which includes more sounds, and a nice tutorial section,
worth the the price of the magazine, online, or printed-with-dvd,
in the mags back-issues area.
Ho! ho!! Ho!!! Merry Christmas...

Re: Lump of coal, or 4 free U-he linux synths?
Podolski is a simple, great sound synth. There are simple synths out there that do not sound as good.
And for Zebralette, well, it is a simplified Zebra2 sound algorythm structure... in it's own right it's great.
Thanks for reminding about TripleCheese and TyrellN6, will try them now.

I made a piece using the free synths:
https://soundcloud.com/nominal6/freetidbit
See also description in the 'Original Scores and Recordings' section.
Note that Protoverb is also freely available from u-he and is a great, although CPU intensive, reverb.

as far as i can see, Repro-1 is the 5th.U-he have four free linux plugin instruments:
TyrellN6
Podolski
TripleCheese
Zebralette installs as a separate part of the full Zebra2 demo installation.
i don't see any mentions about demo mode / functional restrictions neither on its page, nor in its license.

Repro-1 is certainly not free. It's $99. The fifth one is Beatzille.

The original Repro alpha version, (Repro without the -1) is technically free, for those who
kept it around. It's not exactly chopped liver, and works, but probably quite cpu intensive
and featureless compared to the optimized commercial release.
Hoping people enjoy a bargain on the Repro-1 + Repro 5 deal, although I'll pass this time,
as it would be a massive gluttony in my case, lacking both the time and expertise
to use them well.
Cheers

Like others, I got Repro-1 for free, so hopefully the deal will be offered also for those people who got it for free.glowrak guy wrote:Hoping people enjoy a bargain on the Repro-1 + Repro 5 deal, although I'll pass this time,

I see the synths like a painter having a lot of colors to choose from. But then, it is more than obviously arguable that a zen master can do paintings only using black ink and that the painting is not what's more important, but the process doing it.
then again, as with too much food, fat will increase if there's no exercise made, so it's important to exercise them !

good point. because zen master knows what's going on, not just how to switch presets ))))jonetsu wrote:But then, it is more than obviously arguable that a zen master can do paintings only using black ink and that the painting is not what's more important, but the process doing it.

I'd say the zen master would use an Arp Odyssey and only that.chaocrator wrote:good point. because zen master knows what's going on, not just how to switch presets ))))

that's not surprising, because Odyssey came with an excellent tutorial book, which is still very usefull to understand how subtractive synthesis works.
p.s. as for me, i'm on the FM side of the Force

Cool. Never heard (about) it before. Checked out a some examples youtube:

and:

That little box seems to have some bite !
Just for fun, on the topic of zen and synthesizers and patches, there's a nice piece by Hainbach called "Guru Meditation #01" :
