Rapberry Pi3

Post by folderol »

It seems there is to be an official announcement tomorrow, but already leaked info suggests this will be a 64bit jobbie.
Could be fun :)

Take a router to a slab of cherry wood, make a backwoods korg-style workstation box
for the pi3, rob a keybed and guts from a thrift-store yamaha, get an LED, some cherry trim strips,
and have a dedicated Zynbox, that would look at home in a lawyers den.

Is zyn on android yet? A cheap wireless tablet for part of system LED setup would be sweet.
Similar to Remuda for Fender Mustang amps.
Position it offset, according to ones dexterity left/right.

Some Amiga fans supported custom cases for new motherboards,
if they can, anybody can...

I hope the autostatic repositories will be compiled for 64 bit for the RPi 3. That would be really nice.

So, basically a wooden shell for something like http://zynthian.org/

I don't have any of those devices myself, but the full user interface rewrite is being built with touch only interfaces in mind (e.g. a tablet remotely controlling a zyn instance). At some point there will be some user surveys coming out to gauge how many people might be interested in this workflow.

and they are not sure using arm64 is worth it or not.
Yes, it is quite a task to recompile everything for yet another instruction set. We probably have to wait a while, to see where that all ends. As far as I understand, it will work with the existing 32-bit installations, but then we will not have any benefits trom the 64 bit.

It seems Debian has had support for arm64 for a while:
https://wiki.debian.org/Arm64Port
So Raspbian for Pi3 may be just around the corner.

Debian has support for all sorts of architectures - some of them I didn't know existed!
