Seeking feedback: My new Hydrogen Drum Kit
Posted: Sun Jun 10, 2018 8:38 pm
I created my first drum kit for Hydrogen, and I'd love to hear your feedback.
The working title of the kit is "Rhoda." It's made from percussive found-sounds: pots and pans, buckets, nuts and bolts. I tried to give it a sound-collage feel. All samples are licensed cc-0 no rights reserved. I hope to get these up on freesound.org soon.
My inspiration was Mother Stands for Comfort by Kate Bush. I admire the use of fairlight and found sounds in the drums.
Here are some example grooves I made with the kit:

Thanks to whoever made this python script for creating hydrogen kits. Saved me some time!
I'll be improving the panning in the next version. Wanted to know what else I should change. For instance, I named the instruments after the sound they make (thud, chirp) since the sounds don't come from a real kit. Would you prefer if I named them after the drum they resembled the most (kick, snare) ? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
As a side note, I noticed http://hydrogen-music.org/ is down today? Is the Hydrogen project in trouble? Is there someone I should notify?
