Seeking feedback: My new Hydrogen Drum Kit

I created my first drum kit for Hydrogen, and I'd love to hear your feedback.

The working title of the kit is "Rhoda." It's made from percussive found-sounds: pots and pans, buckets, nuts and bolts. I tried to give it a sound-collage feel. All samples are licensed cc-0 no rights reserved. I hope to get these up on freesound.org soon.

My inspiration was Mother Stands for Comfort by Kate Bush. I admire the use of fairlight and found sounds in the drums.

Here are some example grooves I made with the kit:

Example 2

Here is the .h2drumkit file:

Thanks to whoever made this python script for creating hydrogen kits. Saved me some time!

I'll be improving the panning in the next version. Wanted to know what else I should change. For instance, I named the instruments after the sound they make (thud, chirp) since the sounds don't come from a real kit. Would you prefer if I named them after the drum they resembled the most (kick, snare) ? I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

As a side note, I noticed http://hydrogen-music.org/ is down today? Is the Hydrogen project in trouble? Is there someone I should notify?

Hi,

Nice job! Very unique!

I listened to the examples and downloaded but haven't used it yet. I would suggest keeping the names of the sounds rather than correlating the names to a real drumkit. I'll look forward to taking a better look at it when time allows.

Thanks for sharing!

I like your kit, there are some interesting and very usable sounds in there. It would be really nice if you could expand this kit with more sounds. As for the instrument names, I'd say keep them as they are.

The Hydrogen website is still down but the project isn't dead - the devs are still pushing commits to the git repo: https://github.com/hydrogen-music/hydrogen

In case you find it useful I've got a BASH script for creating Hydrogen kits: https://github.com/rock-hopper/makeh2kit

Thank you both for listening to my new kit. I've incorporated your feedback into the second (and more or less final) version of the Rhoda Drum Kit.

Here's the new version

The new version has improved volume and stereo balancing. It keeps the sound-based naming scheme of the first version. And it includes 2 additional instruments.

I hope the hydrogen team can get their website back up. I'd love to submit my kit to their collection one day. If anyone here is a part of the hydrogen project, let us know how we can help. I would be happy to donate some money or time to fix the hydrogen site.

In the mean time, I plan to host my kit on my website, and eventually get the sound clips on freesound.org.

Thanks again!
