I was playing around with the Sonatina Orchestral samples. The string samples are obviously not close-miked. The sound is therefore a bit less bright, less intimate, and with a slower attack. On the other hand, the violin and cello ensembles I made were layered from several close-miked instruments. They have the exact opposite characteristics of the Sonatina strings (but are more prone to hearing anomalies in individual instruments). I found that layering the 2 sample sets yields a really nice blend. The anomalies get smoothed, but there's also a more intimate, brighter, sharper sound. I repackaged my samples with new mappings that blend the sample sets. Unzip the following archive to the Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra folder.

You can then use "jg_violins.sfz" in place of "Strings - 1st violins sustain.sfz" (and "Strings - 2nd violins sustain.sfz" or "Strings - violas sustain.sfz"). Use "jg_cellos.sfz" in place of "Strings - celli sustain.sfz".
