Greetings all,
Not altogether certain that this is the right forum for my question, I'm just gambling it is...
Somewhere else in these pages, I came across Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra. Yet the sole tutorial found on YouTube was recorded on a Windows machine, apparently - so I'm not sure now as to whether Sonatina is going to work in Ubuntu DreamStudio 12.04 LTS as well.
Is there anyone out there willing to share their experience in this area?
If Sonatina is indeed also available for Ubuntu, there are a few things I'd like to know. For instance:
- since it's not available from Software Centre, where to download it from?;
- does it need certain dependencies in order to run properly?;
- if yes, which ones?;
- In passing, I also read that Sonatina may require sound fonts. If so, where would I get those from? Do they come in packages?
As stand-alones? And how (and where) are these to be installed?
I have no previous experience with sound fonts at all....
Thanks in advance for your help .
tnob

Re: Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra
You can get Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra the sfz sample format. What you need is some sort of sfz player/instrument from which you would load the sfz file. I haven't used it at this point, but you should be able to get LinuxSampler for this purpose.
This probably isn't the correct forum for your question, but I'm sure someone could move the topic.

Re: Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra
SSO IS a soundfont
You just download it and play it using linuxsampler or Carla (which is really just a LS frontend).
so to answer your questions:
-http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/download.html
-you need something that plays sfzs so not really a dependency, but you will need linuxsampler (get it from the kxstudio ppas if its not in the software center)
-see above
-it is a soundfont in sfz format, not a stand alone program or plugin or anything else.
Hope that helps! Have fun.
