You recorded the samples and wrote the sfz file.
Correct. And also the solo violin.

Well actually, none of the waveforms had any sfz mappings, so I've done all the sfz files.
What name and website or mail address of yours should I present to the downloader?
Just use your own. It doesn't matter to me. I just make things.

How bizarre. Wikisend must have messed up and linked to someone else's file.

Solo cello:

This one isn't looped, but the notes are long. If I get time someday, I may try looping it.

On cloning hardware synth sounds

Post by gazpacho »

I have followed the news of the program synthclone but was ever too lazy/busy to go through building it. I had a great surprise when I saw it included in kxstudio packages ready to use. Havent gone through it thoroughly but it works stable. It organizes the recording of multiple samples from a synth voice via midi, the dry samples. Then someone with a good ear and knowledge must adjust those, and finally package into a convenient choice which includes sfz. This format is the way to go nowadays because it works very well in different programs.
My doubt is if cloning a hardware module synth voice and releasing it under an open licence is legal. I mean a hardware synth that is no longer being produced whose sounds will be lost to rust someday. I have seen many acompanyment style files reported as extracted from arrangement keyboards though with unclear licencing. It might need collaborative work between the sample collector and the improver to have good instruments. I will report better on synthclone after tests, for now just remind there is the possibility of baking sfz files at home easy.

Is there some good sfz bass, for example upright bass sfz?

There is a decent upright bass in the ARIA free sounds: http://ariaengine.com/forums/index.php? ... ria-engine. These will play in a recent linuxsampler version which supports flac (or convert the samples to wav). Also you have to edit the SFZ file because it uses some kind of internal variables not supported by linuxsampler (specifically you must replace $GEXT1 with ".flac"). Or you can play the samples using wine and the Aria free player.

Well, OK, but it's an .exe file, I don't know how to get to the samples and sfz file.

you can launch it with wine :

Code: Select all

wine ./nameofthefile.exe
inside the exe directory.

It will then launch an extract wizard.

It should be mentioned that jeffg has provided a number of nice bass SFZs which you'll find in earlier posts on this thread.

Music Interest: New Age w/ a mix of modern smooth jazz, light techno/trance & downtempo -- something Epcot Future World/Tomorrowland-flavored.
