How to stop a dll?

Post by LinMusGuy »

When I run a VST-plugin in LMMS it often happens that the corresponding dll keeps running after the plugin is closed. I see this on the taskbar, and I can't even close the dll by right-clicking on it and ordering it to stop...

What is wrong here?

Maybe the vst dll is running on a wine process, so find that and stop it.
Have you tried launching lmms from a terminal, and closing the
terminal when things freeze up? I always run linux daws from
a terminal, since some linux devs don't have a big team of coders,
nor a large group of beta testers, surprises do exist

msoft have both, and still regularly produce shocking failures

On opensuse, Ctrl + Esc bring up the "task manager".

There I can kill remote plugins ( after a crash or freeze of LMMS )

Wine stops by it self if seems, when I kill the vst.

The task manager does not mention the dll...

I think he means that after a problem with LMMS, the vst keep running even if lmms is gone.
When this happens, you see in the taskbar all the vst still running.

I solve this by killing the remote plugins in the task manager.

Yes - that's it, and it even sometimes happens when I close LMMS without there being any problem at all.

The taskmanager does not list the .dll but you should see something like remote plugin in the task manager.
If I use 6 vst , I see the remote plugin 6 times.

Killing those works for me, to get rit of the vst.

On opensue the task manager has a filter option, so I type rem there and the result you see in the pic.

Here is how it should work in Linux Mint:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPqAkN_7BK4

But in my Dutch version of the task manager (called Processenbeheer) the column for process names is so small as to contain only a few letters or nothing at all! So I switched my system to the English language and there one can widen the column for viewing the process names. And indeed the process “RemoteVst” appears when the VST is loaded, but it automatically disappears when you close LMMS.

Could the lock sign have something to do with it?
