new GxFenderizer.lv2

Post by tramp »

. . . and I make another one, the GxFenderizer.
This one is for those who love the clean solid state Fender amp sounds. It comes with a solo and a bright channel.

Great to see so many new LV2 GX* plugins.
Any update on the horizon for the main Guitarix project?

Awesome! I can't wait to try it!

Is it a preamp emulation or does it also emulate the power amp?

It's based on the Fender Stage 160 preamp only.

Some work has been done there as well, so support for lv2_urid_map lv2_urid_unmap and LV2_OPTIONS__options was added, which mean support for a couple more LV2 plugs.
A new commandline option was added -E --hideonquit, this makes the UI experience smooth when used as LV2 plugin exported by carla.
Some bugfixes has happen.
So when you use guitarix from git, you may notice some changes, maybe, but for a new release, I need to port all LV2 plugs finally to the new X11 based interface, which properly will take a couple of more month.
On the road again.

Hi. Thanks for this new plugin.

I am trying it on Librazik3, I found globally the sound type of a fender amp, but I ear a sort of fuzz, without any preset modifications.
Is it normal ?
I like the clean sound of an hot rod (or twin), without any crunch.

Cheers.

Great job! But I suggest you to change its name to avoid C&Ds (i.e. remove the Fender trademark), they can harm the project in the long-run.

mm, I searched the United States Patent and Trademark Office data base, where are 246 entry's for "Fender", but not a single one for "Fenderizer"
So I'm not sure how far such Trademarks get.

btw. this is the Fenderizer:

I definitely am not a lawyer but as far as I remember, trademarks mostly work in classes. So if there is a Fender trademark for the Musical Instrument class, it covers everything which falls into that class. So you can make a Fender hamburger (unless someone trademarked Fender for the Meat Products class) but you can't make a Fender flute, even if Fender doesn't make flutes. And words which contain Fender should also be covered, if they can reasonably "lead to confusion".

So pretty sure Fenderizer is a bit risky...

@Basslint

Yea, sounds reasonable enough.
Thanks for the hint, I'll change the name to something less risky then.

I'm not a lawyer either but I would leave it unless you get a cease and desist message from Fender. It is a clever and descriptive name.

Yeah but they are annoying and also affect repos packaging it, such as the one I help run on openSUSE...better safe than sorry :D

Edit: in my case, I would have to fork @tramp's project and rename it anyway to include it, so it's better if the author himself picks a different name
