No linux! sobering facts

I tested few interesting VSTs in linux lmms, and worked ok:

- MPS "Musical Parameter Synthesizer", that might be suitable tool to get desired sounds
- Inspire CC, nice atmospheric slow pads, but for me all the patches sound pretty similar

There was also some soundfonts which are platform indipendent.

And from previous, 2016 challenge I spotted Lagrange, granular delay plugin, which sounded pretty nice. Quite much same as Particle Delay on my Zoom MS-70CDR guitar pedal.

Aw... I've missed the challenge. Maybe I could take a part.
But there's no chance to win if you're Linux-only plugin developer.

I missed it too. I would have posted about it before if I had known. I haven't been keeping up with KVR really. Way too busy.

Maybe a contest for linux devs could be in conjunction with
the next LAC, combining online and personal attendees for voting?

yep, take care of our own platform because it still seems like KVR doesn't care still about Linux..

KVR, or any diverse forum/website, when seen as a collective,
is like a herd, and the herd follows the lead bulls and cows,
come what may. Having taken part in a few linux discussions there,
the consensus seems to be, that linuxOS, as a platform for audio production,
is simply inferior to msoftOS or appleOS. Adding that when musicians
have invested thousands of dollars on software licenses,
and then countless man-hours on the learning curve, it ought not
to be lightly cast aside.

To me, this signals that useful integration, and working alternatives,
will be received better than presenting linux as a replacement OS.
It also seems that the lead bulls and cows are losing influence,
as it gets harder and harder to support the intrusiveness, restrictions,
and pricing that are part of producing music in the mainstream.

It is historic in that mainstream audio world, that major needs
in the linux arena are being met commercially by
Bitwig, Reaper, Mixbus and Renoise, U-he, discoDSP, and Modartt,
among others. And that great efforts in the free linux community
have been made to insure that things 'just work'. For example,
Rui Nuno Capela puts in some serious hours so that things like
native linux vst-shell plugins can work in Qtractor.

Now there is ongoing discovery and implementation in
the official linux-Reaper, new and knowlegeable users
energized largely by the success of LinVst plugin wrapper,
advancements in wine-staging, and the stability and usefulness
of Reaper as part of the larger linux-is-the-daw paradigim.

Joss Stone has a wealth of stops on her sing-along 'world tour',

edit: I've found 70+ tour stops on youtube, usually just an intro chat,
and one song, 4-8 minutes)

in one, she is singing with a man in Africa playing on a homemade band made of wire,
boards, a bottle, and things to beat on...another stop is in a refugee camp,
where the instrument is one found at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores,
instead of the first-world retailers serving mainly GAS victims,
yet music is being made regardless. And linux plays a part in that
for many people without a substantial budget.

OSX and Windows are shifting more and more to the cloud, APP Store, ... and the operating system itself is becoming more and more meaningless, just a means to an end. What the majority thinks is good is often due to convenience and peer pressure. IMHO
Let's rather concentrate on something positive, GNU/Linux, LV2, ... .

LV2 needs a preset format, and preset manager, one click to open the list of
presets, and one click to open a 'save as' dialog when a new
or edited sound is to be saved.

.fxp and .fxb have served the vst community for ages,
and for lv2 synths to gain any real credibility, the system
has to be at least that good, as the commercial trend is
now for complex indexed sound collections, with favorites,
genres, sound types etc to be searchable from a database.

But there goes the chicken waltzing with it's own egg...
