It's one of those things that are important to the final amp sound. On Vox' original blue series Valvetronix, the negative feedback loop was variable, depending on the amp model, which meant feedback on Fender models, no feedback on Vox models etc., and this made the amp models feel very realistic.
I never had any dealings with fender amps, but the marshals were about 50-50. Also the NFB style used on those that had it was rather strange, and depended a lot on the age of the valves as to weather it was effective at all. You have to be very careful about NFB on amps with lovely phase-shifting transfomers and capacitive coupling

Ah, just found it back, this is the concept behind the power stage:

Perhaps some lightning bolts for the GUI to emphasise the power??

Interesting article and schematic. Those EF806s valves seem to have a very similar spec to EF86, I'm guessing they are a better quality (more expensive) version. The EF86 was notorious for microphony and noise :(

I was surprised to see mention of cathode poisoning (Interface as the writer describes it). Very few people do! For those interested, it happens when there is zero or very little anode current, and the electron cloud round the cathode starts knocking bits out of the surrounding structure. These have a positive charge so get stuck to the cathode, contaminating the surface and reducing emission. It was a very common with monochrome TV CRTs. Those naughty little electrons get bored with nothing to do so start trashing the place :)

That output stage is one of many, many permutations of the idea, including one I used with an ECC82 dual triode... because I could
In theory the transformer tap should be slightly offset as the second valve will have a slightly lower output, but I don't think anyone actually bothers.

I don't know if people here are aware of it but those RGS resistors serve two functions. They limit the grid current in overdrive conditions, protecting the cathode, and also suppress parasitic oscillations. Along with the grid capacitance they create a low-pass filter 50-100kHz

What strikes my attention was this stance:
Amp Books wrote:Achieving full power at lower volume sounds downright appealing to those of us who love big power tubes but don't play the football stadium circuit. As for distortion, well, guitar players aren't known lose sleep at night over a few extra harmonics. So perhaps this circa 1953 concept deserves another chance.

I've read recently an interesting concept around re-thinking how guitar signal is amplified, maybe some guitarists here already know that:

Way too lazy to re-learn that tune, but per your suggestion gave it a shot on this simple-er one of theirs...

Pretty happy with the sound of it. The end is the best part.

As always, thanks for the great offerings, Hermann. 8)

Hi Arthurx

Nice ones. When I close my eyes while listen to them, I see a little place in a city, a passage, were people pass by, some of them get a bit slower while walking, some of them completely stop, to listen.
So, it's street-music, what I'm listen to.
It leaves so much space for dreams. Very well done.

Which wah pedal is it you use there?

hermann
